Seventy five people attended the
February 19, 1940 meeting, which
was held at theWoodwardMemorial
Library. Miss Ruth Keeney, Chairman
of the Nominating Committee pre-
sented the slateof officers: President,
Mr.RoyMcPherson;VicePresident,Mr.
Albert McVean; Secretary, Mrs. Carlos
A.Chapman;Treasurer,Mrs.AlfredDa-
vis; Curator,Mrs. J. Albert Kenny.Miss
Ruth Keeeney, Harold B. Ward, Mrs.
H.M.Bradbury,MissAdrienneSander-
son,Mr. Schuyler C.Wells, andMr. Ed-
ward Perkins were appointed to the
ExecutiveBoard.
It was decided to hold four meet-
ings a year. It was announced at this
meeting that the Daughters of the
American Revolution would donate
their collection of historical papers
and articles to the Historical Society,
(although the actual transfer would
not take place until 1942, when the
Historical Societywouldhave owner-
ship of the LeRoy House, donated by
AllenOlmsted. )

On December 1, 1939, a group of
ten people gathered to discuss the
possibility of organizing a historical
group that would preserve LeRoy’s
history. Theminutebook records the
meeting:
“OnDecember 1st 1939, at the home
of HaroldB.Ward, tenpeoplemetwith
Mrs.J.AlbertKennyaschairman, todis-
cussthequestionof formingahistorical
society. ThosepresentwereDr.andMrs.
Merton Skinner, Floyd Sutterby, Albert
McVean,Mrs. C.A. Chapman,Mrs. J. Al-
bertKenny,Mr.andMrs.HaroldB.Ward,
Mr.andMrs.RoyP.McPherson. Thede-
sirability of presenting the history of
LeRoyandof collectingandpresenting
things pertaining to the early history
and growth of LeRoy was discussed.
It was voted that a historical society
shouldbe formed.Voted that thename
should be the LeRoy Historical Society.
Suggestionsmade:That officers should
be president, vice president, secretary,
treasurerandcurator. Thatduesshould
be$1ayear. No joining fee. That there
should be four meetings a year. Voted
that Mrs. Kenny should act as tempo-
rary chairman until the election of of-
