We have had a very busy season so
far with visitors from all fifty states -
-with the exception of North Dakota.
Visitors from 30 different countries
have stopped by, including folks from
Finland,Uganda, Israel, France, Austra-
lia, and Japan.
In the past couple of months we
have acquired some very interesting
itemsone-bay - -butwealsohave lost
out on some very important items. It
seems that a collectionof LeRoy fam-
ily papers and photographs were be-
ingofferedpiecebypieceby adealer
inNewEngland.
Although I check e-bay regularly, I
was not aware of the collection until
many pieces had already been sold.
From what I could find out, the col-
lection originally was from Robert
LeRoy, who was born in 1885 and at-
tendedColumbiaLawSchool andwas
acorporate lawyer inNewYorkCity.He
was the Secretary and Trustee of the
Museum of the City of New York. His
father was Herman Stewart LeRoy.His

whose father, Herman, was Jacob Le-
Roy’sbrother.
I was able to purchase four copies of
the“LeRoyFamilyandCollateral Linesof
Cornell-Edgar-Goodridge-Jones-New-
bold-Otis-Rutgers-Van Den Bergh”
which was edited by Alexander Du Bin
and published by the Historical Society
ofPhiladelphia in1941. On thefly leafof
oneof thecopies ishandwritten“Master
copyOctober 15,1941 RWR.”
Inside one of the books are letters
to Robert. One, dated May 1, 1944, is
from the secretaryof theLeRoyHistori-
cal Society inviting Robert to become
a member. Another letter, dated April
15, 1944, is from Edward A. LeRoy tell-
ing Robert about the history of LeRoy
House and the Historical Society.With
the books were four hand-drawn and
colored coats-of-arms for the Rutgers,
Otis,Cornell andLeRoy families.The im-
ageswereused in theLeRoygenealogy
books.
